On Saturday the Lions took on Oxhey Jets at Vale Farm in the first round of the FA Vase. On the day the home side were triumphant, progressing to the next round after a 5-1 win.

The Cup match provided a break from the usual League for Wembley, who had won 4 league matches in a row prior to Saturday’s match.

The Lions retained the same lineup that beat Wokingham & Emmbrook last weekend, with goal scorers Iley and Khan staying in the Starting XI and Heron keeping a place on the Bench.

The game started slowly with no major action until the 26th minute, where Samuel Adetiba opened the scoring, setting up Wembley for a fine afternoon of football.

It only took Sam four more minutes before he got on the scoresheet once again, doubling The Lion’s advantage and topping off an excellent first half an hour.

The goals were to keep coming however, with Bernard slotting home following a solo run to send Wembley 3-0 up going into half time.

The second half started slower, with no major goal scoring chances until the 65th minute, where Adetiba managed to complete a wonderful hattrick; all but securing The Lion’s safe passage into the second round of the FA Vase.

Two minutes later however, a lapse of concentration from the Wembley back-line resulting in a Jets penalty, which was scored to make the score 4-1 in the 67th minute.

Substitute Ned Jones sealed the 5th consecutive win for Wembley with a goal in the 87th minute, putting the home side 5-1 up.

Following the full time whistle, The Lion’s place in the second round was confirmed, where Wembley will play at Home to Holmer Green FC on Saturday 25th September 2021. To find out more important information about the FA Vase, read our FA Vase FactFile available here.
