Saturday afternoon football brought the Combined Counties Football league back to Vale Farm, with the Lions hosting Holyport FC in their second encounter of the season. The home side won the match 2-1 completing the double over Holyport this season.

The result sees Wembley push up to 10th in the League, whilst leaving Holyport in 18th place, with just four points from ten games.

With Alfie Bates missing the match through suspension, Walters stepped in to cover defensively in the Lineup.

The Lions started strong, with plenty of attacking football on show. Despite this there were no real attempts on goal until the 16th minute, where Adetiba found a bit of space on the edge of the box and took aim. The shot, however, didn’t threaten the opposing keeper.

More attacking football from the Lions saw a few corners and chances, but it took until the 35th minute for the Home side to be awarded a penalty for a handball in the box. Larrington stepped up and tucked it away, for his third penalty of the season.

The Lions put the pressure on to end the half strongly, but were unable to get another and went into the break a goal to the good.

Following halftime, the momentum swung in the favour of the away side, with the Lions struggling to clear their lines. After an intense spell of pressure from Holyport, some instinctive defending on the line from Calvin Osborne kept Wembley in the game.

Unfortunately the Lions couldn’t keep Holyport out much longer, with the equaliser coming courtesy of a header from a corner by centre back Wilson, sparking wild celebration from the away side.

As the game began to come to a close, Wembley pushed for a late goal, desperately trying to force one final chance. This chance came in the 85th minute, when Sam Adetiba danced through 5 defenders and a fortunate knock trickled the ball into the net past a helpless keeper.

The Lions held on for the last few minutes of the game, and sealed the victory with some much improved defensive stability.

The final score of 2-1 to Wembley sees the Lions push up to 10th in the league, following a dominant first half performance.
