Spelthorne Sports was formed in 1922, and their list of honours began by 2010-11; when they won the Surrey Elite Intermediate League. This successful season saw the club promoted to the Combined Counties League One. This season also saw them win the League Challenge Cup.
In April 2014 The Spelly were the champions of the Combined Counties Division One and lifted the trophy following a 7-0 home thumping of Staines Lammas. Throughout this season the club went on a sensational 46 games unbeaten run, in which Wembley were one of the many higher league opposition that were bested.
The final game of this run came to an end at the hands of current league leaders Hanworth Villa, marking Spelthorne’s first game under the newly installed floodlights. The club currently compete in the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.
Standings:
As it stands only 5 points separate the two sides in the table, with Wembley and Spelthorne placed 10th and 11th respectively. The Visitors however have two games in hand, meaning that a win for The Lions could be crucial in terms of standings. Wembley will be looking to rectify the defeat away to Edgware before Christmas, a result which saw the Wares take 9th place on goal difference. Spelthorne are fresh off an away win over CB Hounslow, and will look to make it back to back wins for the first time since November.
