Southall FC is one of England’s oldest football clubs, being founded in 1871. The club were founding members of the Isthmian League Second Division in 1973, and finished the first season as runners up; before changing their name to Southall & Ealing Borough. After 2 successive relegations, the club were renamed back to Southall at the end of the 1984-85 season.
The club got to an FA Vase Final at Wembley Stadium in 1986, where they lost to Halesowen Town, just before the league reformed and they were placed in the new Division Two. They were relegated 2 years later.
The club was forced to ground share in 1992, before being relegated to the Combined Counties Football League in 1999-2000. They were in a bit of financial trouble in 2006, but eventually were able to clear their debts and were competing in the Premier Division again by 2008.
By last season when the league was curtain railed, the club were sat 5th in the league, and will be celebrating their 150th anniversary this year.
Standings:
Wembley are fresh off a tough 1-1 draw away to Egham at the weekend, but will be looking to build on that point on Tuesday against Southall, who currently sit 2nd in the league. A very strong start to the season leaves them in the top 2 and 11 points clear of the Lions. They are still however a further 10 points off top spot, who appear to be running away with the league. Southall were recently held to a 2-2 draw by Ascot in their most recent outing, but two prior wins finishing 4-0 and 7-0 demonstrate a blatant ability to score goals.
Current Form:
Wembley – WDLDD
Southall – WW*WWD
