Reading City is a relatively new club that was founded in 2001 as Highmoor, after merging Highmoor and Ibis. Both of these teams competed in the Reading Senior League, in the Second and Premier Divisions respectively. In their first season in the Second Division, the club went unbeaten and were crowned league champions, winning the Reading Senior Cup two years later against Woodley Town.
Another successful season in 2010-11 saw them crowned champions of the Premier Division, earning promotion to the Hellenic League Division One East. A successful debut season saw them promoted to the Hellenic League Premier Division, before being renamed to Reading City FC in 2018. The end of the 2020-21 season saw the club transferred to the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.
Standings:
Wembley are off the back of a tough defeat on Tuesday away to Cobham, following a late goal and red card to end what was quite a dominant display. With the focus now solely on the league the Lions will look to bounce back again and gain some points on the board against Reading City, who are three places behind them in 12th. The Citizens are off to a consistent start, but will also be looking for a response following last week’s 3-2 loss to Wokingham & Emmbrook.
