Spelthorne Sports was formed in 1922, and their list of honours began by 2010-11; when they won the Surrey Elite Intermediate League. This successful season saw the club promoted to the Combined Counties League One. This season also saw them win the League Challenge Cup.
In April 2014 The Spelly were the champions of the Combined Counties Division One and lifted the trophy following a 7-0 home thumping of Staines Lammas. Throughout this season the club went on a sensational 46 games unbeaten run, in which Wembley were one of the many higher league opposition that were bested.
The final game of this run came to an end at the hands of current league leaders Hanworth Villa, marking Spelthorne’s first game under the newly installed floodlights. The club currently compete in the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.
Standings:
The Lions will look to shake off the disappointing result at Home on Satuday to Tadley Calleva, who emphatically took their chances, condemning the Lions to five consecutive losses. Both an injury plague and suspensions have caused Wembley’s squad to run thin, resulting in a concerning recent form. Despite this, the squad is beginning to regain strength and showed on Saturday that there is still intent and desire among the players, who will want to end the season on a high. The Spelthorne squad are off the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to CB Hounslow and sit 12th in the League, Two places and points off the Lions.
