Ascot United were officially founded in 1965, after being on record as a club since 1928, and played matches at Sunninghill until they were given permission to convert the Racecourse car park into a football pitch. In 2001 the club joined the Senior Division of the Reading League, which they won on their 6th official season. This resulted in a promotion to the Division One East of the Hellenic League. Their next promotion came two years later in the 2008-09 season when they finished runners up, earning them a spot in the Premier Division.

Ascot made their FA Cup debut in 2001 against none other than Wembley FC, which was the first game in England that was Broadcast live on Facebook. The match was watched in person by a staggering 1149 spectators, and viewed digitally online by an astonishing 20,000 people. This match drew in the Club’s record attendance, and resulted in a 2-1 win to the Lions.

Standings: The Lions head into the weekend on Five Star form. Five wins from as many games in all competitions (with a +13 goal difference) puts Wembley in a fantastic spell of form in preparation for the return of League fixtures following the Cup break. Ascot suffered a defeat in the FA Vase last weekend, losing 2-0 away to Hengrove Athletic. Their league form however left them with an away win over Wokingham & Emmbrook 2-1. Ascot currently are placed two positions behind the Lions, with five points separating them but 3 less games played.
