The FA Vase:

The Lions will compete this weekend in the FA Vase at Vale Farm, but what is this tournament and who can compete?

Who Is It For?

The Football Association Challenge Vase, or FA Vase for short, is an annual competition that is exclusively for teams competing in Step 5 and 6 of the English National League System. This is the equivalent of tier 9 and 10 from the overall English Football Pyramid.

How Many Teams Enter?

The record number for entrants accepted was in 2018-19, where 638 teams were accepted into the competition, which was split over two qualifying rounds, followed by the 6 proper rounds, semi finals and a final.

Where are the Matches Played?

The qualifying matches are all played at grounds across the country, with a random draw deciding the home and away teams, this process is kept until the Semi-Finals which are played over two legs (Home and Away). The Final is always played at Wembley Stadium, where BT Sport broadcast the match.

Who are the Current Champions and Most Prolific Teams?

The current Champions are Warrington Rylands, who managed to beat Binfield 3-2 under the Wembley Arch to claim the Trophy. A hattrick from Elliot Nevitt topped off a wonderful final in May.

The Tournaments most successful competitors are Whitley Bay, who have won the competition 4 times in total, in 2001-02, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Who are the Tournament’s Sponsors?

The FA Vase is sponsored by Buildbase, who also sponsor the FA Trophy and help to promote non league football across the country and aim to give Non-League communities the help they need to be recognised. They also launched the Buildbase Club Renovation Programme in 2016, which annually donates over £400,000 in building materials to clubs competing in the FA Vase and FA Trophy.
