On Tuesday night Vale Farm played host to a bottom of the league clash between Wembley FC and Tring Athletic FC; a must win match in the Spartan South Midlands Football League.
The match began at a frantic pace which resulted in Tring taking the lead through a headed goal within the opening ten minutes. The game settled thereafter and Wembley entered a more positive spell, yet failed to create any good opportunities. Unfortunately for the home side, a couple of pieces of individual brilliance from Tring resulted in them extending their lead to three with two great long range strikes. Wembley’s best chance of the half came just before the break where some space opened up on the right hand side and the ball was cut back only for the shot to be off target. The score was 3-0 at the break.
Wembley came out in the second half determined to get back in the game and started the first fifteen minutes very brightly; just after the hour mark there was finally a break-through for Wembley. An excellently weighted pass allowed Wembley to snatch one back, after a precise shot across the body of the Tring goalkeeper. The comeback was on.
Heading into the last quarter of the match the away side were still causing no problems and Wembley increased the pressure. Sadly the Lions were unable to capitalise on their following chances and with three minutes to go Tring managed to convert their fourth goal of the night which all but confirmed the away side’s victory.
