Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division

Come rain or shine, Avenue Park isn’t the greatest of football venues, but the resolute Lions successfully overcame playing against an awkward Tigers  outfit on a dry, bumpy surface to record an excellent away win.

The visitors, again fielding an altered line-up, took awhile to get into their stride. But with the aid of a goal in each half, they collected three points in their firstaway trip of the season.

Calvin Kasirye netted Wembley’s first goal out of nothing in the 28th minute when he cut in from the left, brushed past a defender, and then unleashed a superb twenty-five yard strike beyond goalkeeper, Ini Amagebe.

The former Wembley custodian then produced a agile double save to deny Joe Wright and Nathan Jallow, following-up, to prevent the Lions notching a two-nil half-time lead.

Inexplicably, the slack visitors did their very best to try and throw away their ascendancy at the start of the second-half before they gradually regained control of matters.

The outstretched Amagebe, clawing the ball off the onrushing Kasirye’s toe, foiled a second goal, while Zaied Sabti went close with another long range drive.

However, Wembley eventually doubled their total with a 61st minute penalty which effectively ended the contest. Wrestling might not be a popular Olympic sport, but Tigers’ defender Adrian Assinor managed to produce a Greco-Roman style manoeuvre to bundle Jallow to the floor in the box.  Sabti converted the ensuing spot-kick to seal Wembley’s win.

WEMBLEY McCreeth, Pearce, Webb, Walters, Brown, Humphries, Sabti, Carroll,

Wright (Heron 88), Jallow (Salako79), Kasirye.
