COLNEY HEATH  0,  WEMBLEY  5,

Saturday, 15th October, 2016,

Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division.

With their S.S.M.L. programme about to be interrupted by three forthcoming cup-ties, it was important that Wembley maintained their good form and also their progress up the Premier Division table with a win at Colney Heath. This was achieved with another impressive five-goal drubbing which took them into second place.

It was another game that Wembley dominated virtually from start to finish and they went in front in the 11th minute. Yassine Fehmi-Gil headed down Steve O’Reilly’s centre for Attila Fekete to half-volley majestically into the back of the net.

O’Reilly and Zaied Sabti should have increased Wembley’s tally, but both players fired the ball wide when well-placed.  Wembley then survived a scare when in a rare riposte, a speculative Colney cross-shot hit a post

But their total was eventually doubled in the 42nd minute thanks to Ayoub Amellal’s superbly placed twenty-yard curling free-kick. Two-nil up, Wembley were now in supreme control and they netted three more goals after the break to emphasize their command of matters.

On the hour mark, Amellal supplied the corner from which the rising Richard Brown knocked home Wembley’s third goal. Teammate Joe Wright had blocked Brown’s initial header. However, Brown forced in the rebound.

In the 76th minute, Wright notched the fourth following a brilliant one-two movement between himself and Fehmi-Gil, which had prised open the home rearguard. Wembley’s 83rd minute fifth goal stemmed from a classic counterattack.

After great defending from Grigoili Zulmatashvili and Conor Carroll had foiled Colney from reducing the arrears, O’Reilly and Timi Salako picked up the pieces. The ball was pumped down the left channel. Wright collected, accelerated past his marker and delivered an inch-perfect cross into the stride of the incoming Alex Witham, who, with his first touch after coming on, sidefooted the ball firmly on the volley past the helpless Colney goalkeeper.  Five-nil.

WEMBLEY:  Zulmatashvili, Webb (Salako 78), Humphries, Pearce (Carroll 67),

Brown, Fekete, Amellal, Wright, Fehmi-Gil (Witham 77), O’Reilly.
