WEMBLEY 5, ST. MARGARETSBURY 0,
Tuesday, 4th October, 2016,
Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division
The rampant Lions had scored a whopping forty goals in twelve previous home matches, and they extended that impressive tally with this five-goal demolition of visiting St. Margaretsbury. Four of the five goals scored were of the highest quality.
Alex Witham, twice thwarted by the Saints’ goalkeeper early on, eventually found the target in the 20th minute to put Wembley in front. The rising Ayoub Amellal flicked a lovely through pass into Witham’s stride. Witham outstripped his marker, sped into the box and neatly guided the ball over the approaching keeper to make it one-nil.
Joe Wright missed a good chance before the home side increased their lead in the 43rd minute thanks to Toby Webb’s cracking twenty yard strike. Set-up by Yassine Fehmi-Gil, the incoming Webb appeared from nowhere to powerfully bludgeon an unstoppable shot from the edge of penalty area.
A lovely one-two manoeuvre involving Fehmi-Gil and Amellal resulted in the latter running goalward to steer home Wembley’s third goal in the 52nd minute.
The home side’s task was then made even easier after the visitors were reduced to ten players in the 66th minute when Rian Carroll was dismissed for committing a second bookable offence.
In the 70th minute it was four-nil. Delivered by Zaied Sabti this time, another slide-rule pass split open the visitors. The elusive Amellal fastened onto the ball and beat the ‘keeper with an audacious lob.
And the rout was completed ten minutes from time. Jermaine Heron helped on Webb’s cross from the right and Jabir Laraba , after two failed attempts, put away goal number five from close range for the third time of asking.
WEMBLEY: Zulmatashvili, Webb, Humphries, Pearce, Brown, Fekete, O’Reilly,
(Sabti 67), Amellal, Wright (Heron 67), Fehmi-Gil, Witham (Laraba 63).
